About The Director
Hello! I’m James Majetich, the Executive Director of the Outdoor Heritage Foundation of Alaska. I am a pilot, hunting guide, trapper, occasional commercial fisherman, and marginal angler with a rod and reel. Most importantly though, I have a passion for outdoor education and helping others become safe and responsible users of our backcountry and resources.
I was born and went to school in Florida, however, I spent a good portion of my childhood in the mountains of western North Carolina and, most impactfully to me, the Boundary Waters of northern Minnesota. It was there, in my two to three months at my great uncle’s cabin each summer, that I discovered my love for the outdoors.
After an enlistment in the Marine Corps I found my way to Alaska and have been here ever since. In that time, I have been lucky enough to guide hunters in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, chase bears in Prince William Sound, commercially fish in Bristol Bay, trap the Talkeetna Mountains, and rack up a few hundred hours of backcountry flight time.
Here in my Corner, I’ll share some updates from OHFA about projects and happenings throughout the year and the occasional story about time in the field.
